Directed by: Roger Vadim. Upon a second viewing, I can say without a doubt that it is both. I laughed and groaned often and sometimes at the same time.
Jane Fonda has revealed that she got drunk on vodka before filming the iconic nude scene in Barbarella. The star claimed to be terrified of stripping off in front of the crew, but went along with the act as her husband at the time, Roger Vadim, insisted that she starred in the movie. In the opening scene of the film, Jane can be seen laying naked on a glass plate as it to create the illusion she was spiraling through space.
Primarily silly piece of sci-fi sexploitation based on the adult comic-strip created by French artist Jean-Claude Forest. Vadim's direction is pretty tedious, and his main aim seems to be titillation. Jane Fonda plays a 41st-century space adventuress who begins the film in a capsule heading for the planet Lythion.
The GCDb. Dildano's password, "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch", is the name of a real village in Wales, United Kingdom unsurprisingly, it's the longest place name in the UK. The scenes during the opening credits where Barbarella seems to float around her spaceship were filmed by having Jane Fonda lie on a huge piece of plexiglas with a picture of the spaceship underneath her. It was then filmed from above, creating the illusion that she is in zero gravity.

A cult classic staring Jane Fonda as the sexy traveller from earth, on a mission to find the scientist known as Durand Durand. It has a blind Angel, a sexy evil queen, and a death sex machine! Its so 80s…yet in the late 60s!
Barbarella begins in the fur-lined cockpit of a space-faring starcraft, fabulously appointed with a statue of a moon goddess and, inexplicably, what looks to be a full-sized replica of A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grand Jatte. Despite the high-flown frivolity of its conception and the infectiously groovy theme song, this tableau does not represent the most quintessentially with-it of all possible sci-fi worlds. This is Jane Fonda, appearing nude on screen in the opening moments of the first movie she made with then-husband Roger Vadim.

Barbarella - Queen of the Galaxy is a science fiction B-movie released in by Paramount Pictures. The cult classic with hippie leanings is dismissed as cheesy pap by some, and cherished by others for its strong female lead and sex-positive message. The movie is based on Jean-Claude Forest's French graphic novel of the same name.
Link to movie profile on IMDB. You can see the intro here not safe for work. This is pretty much the only nudity of that movie; the rest of it sounds like a bad pornographic movie, except they removed the sex scenes: the same awkwardness is there, the shitty scenario is there, the budget spent on the crew doing new-found chemichal drugs this is is there, but not the sex scene.
